Japanese Glass Fishing Floats, Shades of Blue, Alaska Beachcombed

$49.99

Welcome to Glass Float Junkie!

These beautiful glass fishing floats are originally from Japan.  They were handblown using recycled glass prior to the early 1970's & after 1910.  They were used by Japanese fishermen for salmon gillnet fishing in the Bering Sea.  The floats were beachcombed on a remote beach along the coast of the Aleutians in Alaska.

Each float originally had a net on it, which connected it to the large gillnet.  The nets often disintegrate & fall off after exposure to the elements, such as the sun, saltwater, surf & sand.  The frosted areas were created from the sand.  They have bubbles throughout the glass, along with a few net marks.

Size:  3.2" in diameter
Color:  Shades of blue

These are lovely floats with lots of character!
