Japanese Glass Fishing Float, Original Net, Alaska Beachcombed

Welcome to Glass Float Junkie!

This beautiful glass fishing float is originally from Japan.  It was handblown using recycled glass prior to the early 1970's & after 1910.  It was used by Japanese fishermen for salmon gillnet fishing in the Bering Sea.  The float was beachcombed on a remote beach along the coast of the Aleutians in Alaska.

The nylon net is original & it once connected the float to a large gillnet.  The nets often disintegrate & fall off after exposure to the elements, such as the sun, saltwater, surf & sand.  This one stayed intact!  There is about 14" of line still attached to the float.  The frosted areas on the float are from when it rolled in the sand.

Size:  3.2" in diameter
Color:  Blue/Green

This gem would be great hanging in a window!
